I had an amazing FREE personal tour of the Spirits of the Wasatch Distillery this last week. The distillery is small, but the owners are fantastic and provided a very educational and interactive tour! I learned a lot about the process of distilling whiskey, gin, and vodka and also learned about the aging process involved with their bourbon!

I would highly recommend this tour and $5 tasting for anyone visiting the Salt Lake area or anyone who wants to get out and learn something new! This would be a great company offsite for local employees or friends that want to try a new experience together! My favorites were the cowgirl coffee liqueur and the barrel aged gin! Thanks for the amazing time, Spirits of the Wasatch!

What a great tour we had at this small distillery. Jacob was very good at telling and showing us how they make their bourbon, gin and vodka. Love the tasting and came home with their bourbon, gin and coffee liqueur. Thanks

Came in for a distillery tour yesterday and loved it! Our tour guide Jacob was incredibly knowledgeable and made the tour fun and exciting. JP was friendly and passionate about his craft and the whiskey is some of the best Ive ever. I somehow even enjoyed the potato vodka which I normally can't even smell without gagging. Highly recommend the tour with Jacob and will definitely be coming back when my stash of treats runs out! Thank you all so much, keep doing what you're doing!

At first, we weren't sure where Waze was taking us, but trust your nav system- this Distillery is a definite destination! JP (the owner) greeted us at the door and readily gave us an informative, personal tour. He was very knowledgeable and strives to produce quality spirits. He shared with us that he chooses the flavor composition of a smaller batch over a higher profit yield (quality over quantity)- something rare to find in this day & age! We sampled seven different spirits & were pleasantly surprised with the flavors of Gin- something we don't typically gravitate toward.

Oh my, I can't believe I didn't know about Hammer Spring until just recently! Yes, this place is definitely off the beaten path for normal SLC digs, but it's worth the drive, promise.

I came in tonight for a tour of Hammer Spring Distillery, and as soon as I entered, I found out my group had cancelled on me! Regardless, JP invited me in, and I was able to get a mini back-stage presentation on their current boozy selections. And I'm hooked now.

This is a cute little set up the owners have here: you enter and immediately are in the retail section, tastefully set up. To the left is a small tasting room with a barrel in the center showcasing all of their offerings, and directly through the retail area is the distillery space.

Before my stop in, I had read up on the business and products, but was pleasantly surprised to see a 5th bottle sitting on the barrel that I hadn't anticipated, the new love of my life: a habanero infused vodka. (We will come back to this).

I had a taste of their Hidden Vodka first. This one is a necessity, as some proceeds of it's sale goes back towards the fight of human trafficking. The vodka was smooth, and easily drinkable. The next tried was their Potato Vodka- one I was eager to sample. I've never tried a pure (and local) potato vodka before, and the flavor is awesome. It's definitely different than your traditional vodka, but it was great. It'll bring a different undertone bite to any drink. Their Gin was the one I was least excited to try, being a very non-gin drinker. With just the initial smell, I knew I was about to try something special. The gin was actually enjoyable. JP told me all of the flavors they use to create their gin - and it was impressive, the list was more extensive than I would have thought, including ingredients like dried rosemary (fresh was too bitter), sage and peppercorn!

Now to my personal favorites - the ones I envision sitting top shelf in my kitchen: The Perky Cowgirl Coffee Liqueur, and Habanero infused vodka. Both of these are so special, and unfortunately the Utah DABC hasn't allowed them access into our liquor stores yet. (A good excuse to visit the distillery!)

The Perky Cowgirl uses coffee from Milcreek Coffee Roasters - and I cannot begin to explain how amazing it is. The coffee flavor makes for easy morning drinking, liqueur or not. My first thought was a coffee liqueur pour over on vegan ice cream. This lil number would be great in mixed drinks utilizing coffee, chocolate or vanilla notes. Or just as a quick shot to getcha moving.

The Habanero infused vodka is perfect. I had a small taste of it, as it's not suppose to be used in shot-sized pours. You. Will. Feel. The. Heat. and it's glorious. It is spicy, and would be amazing in Bloody Mary's. I feel that all cocktail creating SLC establishments should be considering having it in-house. There was the suggestion of adding a bit to hot chocolate, but for myself, I feel I would use it in lemonades on a hot summer day, salsa mixes, and in an olive oil when making home-made popcorn. Hot damn.

Overall thoughts: Hammer Spring products taste high-end. They are smooth, smell amazing, and are robust with flavor. I enjoyed everything I tried, and that's uncommon with distilleries. This place needs to be known throughout the Salt Lake valley! Spread the word!!

My husband and I came upon Hammer Springs Distillery by sheer happenstance, and I'm so glad we did!! They have a little of everything: vodka, gin, whiskey, rum and coffee liquor. We did an impromptu tasing and I have definitely found my new favorite distillery!! Everything had a very smooth taste. I'm not much of a gin drinker, but theirs was by far the best!! Some of their items are available at the state liquor stores, but some can only be bought at their distillery. They are a little off the beaten path in an industrial area of West Valley, but totally worth it!! We left with a bottle of rum and whiskey, along with two shot glasses. They have some fun unique items like habanero vodka and some pancake syrup. Can't wait to go back and purchase some more great spirits!!

We came in just as they were opening on a Saturday. We were the only ones there. That's great for a private tour, and visiting, but these places need lots of people who then purchase. Similar to Holystone, the current core is Vodka and Gin. However, each place has a very different view for each. The Vodka is potato based. They source their potatoes from a farm in southern Idaho. The machine thats does the "peeling" and the device they use to grind the potatoes is worth its own story. It's a very smooth and elegant Vodka. Even as a non-Vodka person, I could see myself drinking this. We certainly bought some.
JP ventures off the norm with his botanical selection with his Gin. It's described that it "captures the essence of Utah wilderness in a bottle with hints of juniper and mountain sage". There's a couple national Gins, like the St. Grorge Terrior, that take this to extremes. JP, keeps things in balance. You can taste the flavors the mountains invoke in the Gin. Like the Vodka, it's also very elegant. This is another place where you can put the Vodka and Gin up against other top speciality bottlings and it holds its own.
They are working on getting their products out to your local State Store, but for now, you have to stop by. Go ahead and do it. Their Coffee Liqueur is great, and the Habanero infused Vodka would work well in a number of situations.

The distillery tour is a MUST DO! JP is so knowledgeable about his craft and never hesitates to elaborate on any topic! His liquor is just as good as his personality too! Everything was delicious but my personal favorites were the coffee liqueur, the habanero vodka, and the clear gin. This is an absolute MUST GO PLACE!!!

The best distillery tasting in SLC. The aged gin and bourbon were my favorite, but the coffee liquor was well done.
